Keep on the Shadowfell Maps

I don't normally post on a Sunday, so as to save my work for when people are actually reading, but seeing as people seemed to appreciate being linked to the Prince of Undeath conversion, I thought it wouldn't hurt to direct you to some other resources for the H series modules.

For today it's Loyd Blankenship's fantastic battlemaps for Keep on the Shadowfell, based on the originals by Mike Schley. These are remakes of the printed maps, with the monsters, traps and secret doors helpfully cleaned off, leaving them ready to be printed off for use at your next game or imported into MapTool or other virtual tabletops.

It's just the Keep - for the kobolds, the burial site and the interludes you'll have to use the poster maps included with the published module. If you bought the original PDF or downloaded the free one you're out of luck.

The links all point to Loyd's threads on the Cartographer's Guild forums. The first floor of the Keep is here (encounters 1 to 5), here (encounters 6 to 8), and here (9 to 12), and the second level of the Keep is here.

Naturally, you're all well and truly done with Keep by now and these are of no use to you. But just in case - enjoy!

Those are some shiny maps. Any advice on printing them out for use? Just trim off the white bits at the edges where needed so they overlap well?

@John - I printed them out with a 1 cm whitespace border on the right and bottom and as little whitespace on the top and left as I could. Then I trimmed the top and left, and stickytaped the pages together. The spare whitespace on the bottom and right goes behind and provides some reinforcement so it doesn't just all fall apart. On the whole it worked very nicely.

If you've got a higher budget, take the file to a printer and get it on a single page, possibly in colour and/or on cardstock while you're at it. Figuring in stickytape and paper costs it doesn't come out much more expensive.

I love the quality of these maps! I used PosteRazor (http://posterazor.sourceforge.net)which automatically splits an image up into a PDF file and printed out a couple of these for the first level when I ran my Keep. However, my table is just too small and my players blasted through the maps so fast that it really wasn't worth the cost, so I switched to a whiteboard that my wife and I traced lines on. It's not the same though. I need a real battlemat...

@doubleofive - I'm finding that each of the modules keeps us going for six or seven sessions. We run once a fortnight so that's nearly four months of play in each one. It's worth a few hours and a hundred or so sheets of paper per module to have nice maps, I figure.

I can't even tell you how great it is that you made these maps! You've just saved me countless hours of work...and yours look better, too. Thank you so much!!!

The link is dead and I'd love to check them out. :)

Anywhere else they are posted?

thanks!

These are awesome!

For anyone that can't use the links, just remove the forums. part at the beginning.

I'm using a (modified) KotS of greater difficulty, and I had to use some blurring and other image techniques to make the maps look good in roll20, but these are already premade and very useful.
